So as you’ve seen in a few older posts I’ve played along to some tracks on the pad just to practice rudiments and hybrid rudiments. Well lately I have been wanting to take a stab at making an improv video on the pad to a song that I’m into at the moment. I’m a huge fan of guys like Ralph Nader, Harvey Harv, Garret Kimmel, and SDJMALIK who have paved the way lately with chopping out on Xymox pads and marching snares.
After watching these videos and admiring the styles these guys bring to the table I immediately had a “want” to be able to do this one day since I love rudimental playing. It’s definitely a different kind of animal compared to drum set but I’m going to keep taking steps forward to try to do my own thing. In no way is this something I plan to do full-time but it’s something that I have an interest in and it could benefit my playing. Did I mention that it just seems like it would be fun?
Anyway… Just wanted to share this with you in case you are on the fence about trying something different from what you are used to. If you are then just take a step forward and make the push. There is no telling where you may end up and what doors may open for your playing.
